Anti-discrimination Act

On January 1st 2009 the Anti-discrimination Act came into force. It provides for the protection and promotion of equality as the highest value of the constitutional order of the Republic of Croatia, creates prerequisistes for the realisation of equal opportunities and regulates protection against discrimination on the grounds of race or etchic affiliation or colour, gender, language, religion, political or other belief, national or social origin, property, trade union membership, education, social status, marital or family status, age, health condition, disability, genertic heritage, native identity, expression or sexual orientation. The Act shall apply to the conduct of all state bodies, bodies of local and regional self-government units, legal persons vested with public authority and to the conduct of all legal and natural persons. Herewith is an unofficial translation of the Act.

2003 Annual Report

Croatian Parliament passed the Gender Equality Act (further: GEA) on July 14th, 2003 (it was published in Official Gazette no. 116 on July 22nd 2003 and it came into force on July 30th, 2003).

GEA establishes the Ombudsperson for Gender Equality as one of the mechanisms for monitoring implementation of GEA and other documents, laws and regulations regarding gender equality. On October 1st, 2003, Ms Gordana Lukač Koritnik was appointed by the Croatian Parliament as the first Ombudswoman for Gender Equality (Official Gazetter 157/03).

According to the Gender Equality Act, the Ombudsperson for Gender Equality submits to the Croatian Parliament Annual Report on all the activities of her/his office at least once a year. This Annual Report for 2003 is the first report the Ombudswoman for Gender Equaltiy submits to the Croatian Parliament in her mandate.
